A Global Gathering in the Heart of St. Louis
What happens when you bring together 300+ healthcare leaders and executives representing $500B+ in revenue and 39 innovators from 10 countries?
You get three days of groundbreaking conversations, cutting-edge innovations, and real-world solutions. That’s exactly what unfolded at the 9th Annual BioSTL Global Health Innovation Summit here in St. Louis. Each year, this gathering connects decision-makers from leading healthcare organizations with innovators from around the world — and 2025 was no exception. From AI in healthcare to NEURO360, the Summit delivered on its promise to work toward the transformation of healthcare through collaboration.
A Global Stage in St. Louis
St. Louis is home to one of the largest concentrations of healthcare corporations and health systems in the U.S., making it the perfect place for global innovators to showcase their solutions. Since 2014, the Summit has attracted 154 companies from 15 countries, resulting in 130 contracts valued at $800M, new jobs, offices, investments, and clinical trials.
This year, 39 companies from 10 countries joined us, a powerful reminder of the global connectedness we’re building.
Highlights from 2025
AI in Healthcare
We explored where AI stands today, what barriers remain, and how healthcare utilities can scale responsible adoption. Leaders from The Permanente Medical Group, Intermountain Health’s Mindshare Institute, and WashU/BJC brought both optimism and pragmatism to the discussion.
A highlight of the Summit was the lunchtime panel, “The Future of Rural Health Catalyzed by AI,” sponsored by Sand Technologies. Panelists, including Fred Swaniker (Founder and CEO, Sand Technologies), Manasseh Gihana Wandera (Executive Director, Society for Family Health, Rwanda Ministry of Health), Todd Richardson (Director, MO Healthnet), Todd Ahrens (President and CEO, Hannibal Regional Healthcare System), and Jon Doolittle (President and CEO, Missouri Hospital Association), shared how AI can address long-standing challenges in rural healthcare — from expanding access and improving outcomes to enabling more efficient care delivery.
The conversation also highlighted BioSTL’s work developing a healthcare AI utility, a centralized platform that allows hospitals and clinics to share data and AI-driven insights securely, helping scale innovations across multiple systems efficiently. This discussion showcased how innovative technology can not only transform urban healthcare systems but also bring critical services to underserved communities.
Collaboration in Action
The Summit isn’t just about ideas — it’s about making deals. Invite-only business development meetings gave health systems the chance to connect directly with global innovators offering ready-to-buy solutions.
We were also honored to welcome Governor Mike Kehoe, who delivered a keynote titled “St. Louis and Missouri: A Healthcare Powerhouse – Welcoming Cutting-Edge Global Innovation.” His remarks highlighted Missouri’s commitment to attracting global innovation and reinforcing St. Louis as a hub where healthcare breakthroughs can thrive.
New This Year: Innovation Lab for Early-Stage Startups
For the first time, we introduced an Innovation Lab track designed for early-stage solutions. These companies may not yet be market-ready, but they represent the cutting edge of what’s next. Leaders and investors had a chance to offer feedback, explore co-development opportunities, and see the next wave of healthcare innovation before it scales.
NEURO360
We closed the Summit with a deep dive into neuroscience innovation at the WashU Neuroscience Building. From translation-to-practice panels to startup showcases, NEURO360 positioned St. Louis as a rising global hub for brain health breakthroughs.
