Grant Downes is a bioengineer specializing in therapeutic development for autoimmune diseases. He earned his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Kansas and B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Wichita State University. His graduate research focused on enhanced delivery of antigens in Type 1 Diabetes for antigen-specific immunotherapy development, combining protein engineering and bioconjugation techniques.
Beyond the lab, Grant has been involved in venture capital and leadership roles. As a Student Consultant with BioGenerator Ventures and a Venture Capital Intern with the University Venture Fund – Crossroads, he evaluated biotech startups and supported underrepresented founders in refining their business strategies. He has also mentored undergraduate researchers, managed laboratory operations, and contributed to fostering inclusive environments as a member of the School of Engineering's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee.
Grant’s accomplishments include receiving the Madison and Lila Self Graduate Fellowship and multiple academic and athletic honors as a decathlete at Wichita State University and the University of Kansas while pursuing his graduate studies. His expertise spans advanced analytical techniques, therapeutic design, and entrepreneurial drive, positioning him as an exciting addition to the BioGenerator Ventures team.
