Guillermo Rivera Gonzalez was born and raised in Mexico City. He earned a Biology degree from UNAM, Mexico, and completed a PhD in Biology at the University of York, UK, focusing on gene therapy for prostate cancer. Following his PhD, Guillermo pursued postdoctoral research at Yale University, specializing in skin and adipose biology. He then joined Samantha Morris' lab at Washington University in St. Louis, where he worked on cell identity, differentiation, and single-cell approaches. While at WashU, Guillermo co-founded CapyBio and helped secure pre-seed funding.
